Sen. Alexis Calatayud was elected to the Florida Senate in 2022 at the age of 29, making her one of the youngest individuals to ever serve in the chamber. She represents District 38.

The Senator has spent more than a decade in advocacy, policy, and campaign roles supporting Florida’s education champions and advancing transformational education policies. Currently, she serves as the Community Engagement & Public Policy Liaison for the Miami-Dade & Monroe County Early Learning Coalition, where she leads national learning exchanges and builds special initiatives.

Previously, she was Chief Lobbyist and Legislative Affairs Director at the Florida Department of Education during the COVID pandemic, responsible for advocating for the future of the education system before the Florida Legislature.

A Miami native, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Political Science from Florida International University.

In the Senate, she serves as Chair of the Education Postsecondary Committee and Vice Chair of the Education Pre-K–12 Committee. She is also a member of the Appropriations Committee on Higher Education, Appropriations Committee on Pre-K–12 Education, Fiscal Policy, Health Policy, Regulated Industries, and the Joint Committee on Public Counsel Oversight.
